I am Lisa Thompson; I live in Spennymoor with my 10 year old daughter, Carrera.
I have lived in Spennymoor all my life, initially on the Grange Estate with my parents, Kevin & Kathy Thompson, and Brother Kevin, and more recently on the Whitworth Park Estate with my daughter.
I attended King Street junior School and then moved to Spennymoor Comprehensive School.
After leaving school, I worked at Black & Decker for 10 years. I was time served as an electrician and fitter and moved with the business as they invested in me. Not only did they support my manufacturing experience but also a strong education as I gained an Engineering Degree and later a Master in Business. This was a great time in my life and I was lucky to work and among people in the local area and during this time, made friends that are still a big part of my life now.
I have a love for manufacturing and recently moved from being a plant manager for the last three years to becoming an Engineering and Operations Director at a local plant in Durham. I share not only a passion for manufacturing but also in educating children in the opportunities in such an environment. I am a member of STEM (Science, technology, engineering and maths) where I provide my time, experience and passion to help educate and provide talks to young adults from 5 – 17.
As a mother, who dotes on her daughter, she really is my world! I often feel the pressure of being in work full-time and being a mam. However, I always try to look at the positives in life and I am proud of the examples that I am setting my daughter as I juggle working and being the best mam I can be!
As my daughter gets older, and I have matured, I care more and more about the local community and the area in which we live. I care about the schools, the environment and opportunities for our children. I hope that by joining the local council I can have a positive effect in the area.
