I was born and spent the first nine years of my life in Byers Green before moving to Fern Grove, Middlestone Moor, where I lived until marrying in 1973. Since then Kathy and I have lived in Spennymoor; the last thirty two years in Mayfields.
My working career included 40 years at Black & Decker where I served in a number of shop floor and office environments. It was at Black & Decker where I met Kathleen. We have been married for 42 years; have two children, Lisa and Kevin. Lisa is the mother of our 8 year old granddaughter Carrera, while Kevin has recently been married.
I have served as a local councillor since 2002; initially as a District Councillor on the old Sedgefield Borough Council, subsequently as a County Councillor for the new Durham County Council Unitary Authority and on Spennymoor Town Council.
I am, as a member of the Spennymoor Independent Group, currently a Town Councillor for Byers Green and a DCC Councillor for the Spennymoor and Middlestone Ward.
In my capacity as a councillor I have become involved in a number of organisations; I am a school governor for Ox Close and Byers Green Primary School, on the board of the social housing group livin as well as the board of Spennymoor Area Action Partnership.
